Many Drawers

Fifteen drawer cabinet that can be hung on the wall contained bits of hardware years ago. Each drawer has an item attached that would have been in the drawer. It was made from old crates. The little handmade bear sitting beside is looking for a good home.

More drawers but these are not old of course but I love the mustard paint.

Love the natural light coming in the window and the old brick of the walls. The old blackened cake tin is holding new pantry jars and all is resting on a corner board newly made.

Baskets

Baskets speak to me and say country all the way. There are so many places a basket can be tuckeed whether it is empty....

...or filled with something whimsey or practical. Old baskets have so many uses today as they did in the past.

Old Table

Old tables have such a warmth about them. This one has tapered legs and the top lifts off. The pegs that held it in place are long gone as is the drawer which now only has a front. This happens with antiques sometimes as they make their journey through life. The stories that could be told. aaahh!!

Gathering Together

This tin piece is a wash basin with a shelf/stand where perhaps the toiletries would rest. I thought it would be neat to add a grouping of old kitchen items and a candle to re purpose this interesting oldie.

This is another view but I will say, I am not liking the bowl of pears. Surely we can find something else but it does need some color.

Fresh Year !! Fresh Start !!

Remember the first day of school with all your new supplies? New pencils, notebooks not written in and a teacher/teachers to get use to. The promises of a school year makes me think of our New Year 2012. We have the chance of a fresh start.

This year I hope that I will have the time to visit more of my blog friends on their sites. There are so many places to visit and things to learn from each other. Each of you that have taken the time to leave comments mean so much to me and I want to be able to do the same.

Almost That Time!!

The days are becoming fewer as we approach the big day. A few last minute gifts to gather? What about one of our yummy candles for that neighbor?

We have many candles to chose from. This Warm Glow in red works perfect for this time of the year. For a friend perhaps?

What about a Christmas Tradition scent to burn at your home for the holidays?

A great stocking stuffer or an addition to a gift basket Cooper's Mill has delicious relishes and jellies.

For a quick appetizer use one jar of the Vidalia Onion Relish mixed with 8oz. of cream cheese. Or pour a jar of Hot Pepper Jelly over cream cheese. Yum!!

We will be open until 3:00 pm Christmas Eve so come in and shop in a relaxing atmosphere.

Did Santa Come Early???

Oh Goody !! Look what Santa (in a huge truck) brought, big boxes. It is always exciting to see the big trucks pull up but today was busier than usual. After these four big boxes came another truck bringing six more.

This is one of the cupboards stashed away in a huge box. I quickly tore through to find more treasures.

The possibilities are endless with this table top dry sink. I actually set it by a wing back chair and it looks great.

Like drawers? This Ol'City Tavern one of several new pieces that have drawers. You can never have too many drawers to stash stuff.

Snow People

Small Snowman dressed for winter in his jacket and scarf.

I think this snow girl is a little sassy in her straw bonnet and knowing smile. The felt snowmen pillow to her right add a bit of winter cheer.

This snow fellow is the companion to the snow girl. I moved both of them to a table arrangement after this picture was taken. They make a nice grouping with the box and greenery.

I Am Thankful

I am thankful for my family and the day we had yesterday. Seeing everyone enjoy the meal prepared, the games afterwards and some of us even went to a movie. The grand kids wanted popcorn to nibble on while watching the movie. Where they could put it I am not sure but they managed.

A wonderful hand made Santa adds a special touch to a seasonal grouping. The greens are some that have just recently arrived. Long needle pine with weeping cedar added , softens the Santa.

This little primitive tree is hand made in Tennessee and can find a spot in the home anywhere. Notice the weeping cedar on the right behind the tree,the drape of this piece would be good on a mantle also.

Fan Back Chair

Christmas Touches Everywhere

Cupboards are filled with Santa's, snowmen, red plates and of course greenery and berries.

The stockings are hung and prim angels grace this four foot tree.

From a previous post I mentioned I liking trees up on things, well this tree is on a saddle makers bench. More stockings hung but this time all over a tree. I like the red jingle bell picks that cascade through the branches.

This cupboard is filled with snowmen and perhaps a Santa or two. I love all their cheery faces peeking out.

Cozy Christmas

The Windsor chairs just came in last week , just in time for Open House. Touches of greenery and Santa complete the grouping in the red scoop. The tree is filled with gingerbread boys of all sizes and makes you almost want to go by and take a sniff.

The primitive two door cabinet is filled with gingerbread houses, popcorn balls and even a jar of marshmallows (not real). On top are three wonderful Santa's.

Open House This Week !!!

Festive,I think is a word that can describe the shop this week. Every nook and cranny has been decked out with holiday cheer. A few pictures and more to come as we celebrate the season this week.

Handmade snowmen of all sizes fill this tree that is placed in an old green meal bin. In the center of the tree notice the snow shovel tucked in the branches. The shovel went to a good home of a sweet customer.

This Vienna Twig tree is filled with Santa's, stockings and candy canes. The tree and Make do chair are sitting on a railroad cart. Unfortunately the cart is not seen in the picture. I like trees in different containers or placed on something unusual. It is that little unexpected that can make a setting interesting.

Last but certainly not the least are four creative ladies,Dianne, Norma, Merrilyn and Kathy. They spend two days helping me transform the shop into a Christmas event to be enjoyed by all. Without their help we might still be in all those boxes I showed you a few weeks ago. Also in the picture is Brian who helps on the first day writing tickets.

Fall Simplicity!

A few things gathered in a reproduction box brings your eye in. The old red ware mold and the battery operated timer candle get softness from the bittersweet candle ring.

It is a shopkeepers dilemma when you are loving fall and Christmas goods are piling up waiting to get out. Our Candlelight and Cider Open House is a little over a week away. There is much work ahead but it will be fun pulling everything together.

Boxes And Even More Boxes !!

Pretty boxes!! The sets on the right and left are hand painted. The set in the middle is fabric covered with a nice stitching detail. I love the earth tones of these boxes.

Not so pretty boxes!! These are called cardboard .I have been busy trying to get things unboxed and priced for the upcoming Open House in two weeks. Granted the boxes are not pretty but what is inside are wonderful Christmas treasures. Yes, that is a tree on the right waiting for someone to fluff and decorate.

Do you like crows? They seem to pop up on a lot of things for prim decorating. The handmade crow sits atop a hooked sunflower. The crow mug has been very popular. The mug has a nice balance and a great roomy handle.

Yesterday a goody box came from Sue in Connecticut.The pumpkin man and witch can be hung on the door or wall. The jack o' lanterns come in two sizes and can be tucked just about anywhere. I was glad to get these in because the fall decor is going fast.

Bittersweet

I love fresh bittersweet and this shipment just arrived. It came early this year and I am thrilled...it will give us a longer time to enjoy. This is one of the bunches full of berries.

The bittersweet has been added to a birch wreath and it is just one of many sizes.

The cakes are ready ,the store has been tweaked and now pretty bittersweet.....what more could a girl ask for??? Maybe smiling faces this week to celebrate fifteen years of Gatherings. Come see what is new .

The red dry sink found a place in the shop after I attached the hand pump. The buggy seat at the left makes a good place to display some of the old brown crocks I just brought in.A little fall tweaking and this dry sink found a spot to sit a spell.

The little wash stand with the scalloped back and pull out board works well as a bed side piece.

A mustard cabinet with drawers made in Pennsylvania gets a touch of fall with a fabric pumpkin perched on top. Bits of orange are peeking out everywhere.

This folk art kitty with his jack o' lantern is made in Tennessee by a very talented folk artist. He arrived while I was away and his big smile greeted me when I walked into the store.

Browns on the bed gives a feeling of fall and especially the extra touch of a painted gourd. The coverlet is a perfect weight and the one at home gets my husband's approval.

After our trip this is part of the unload. The red dry sink has a nifty pump that will be reattached. I love the dry sink on the right with the scalloped back and a place to sit a candlestick. It is always fun to pull things off to see what we have gathered.

I was at the shop today getting things worked in. My van is loaded with smalls that are priced and ready to make their appearance on Tuesday when we open.

Buying Trip Pictures

Don't you want to be able to peek in an old barn to see if there is a hidden treasure? There were some interesting barns along the way.

An old downtown area that would make interesting shops in this little town. Love the old brick, arched windows and the stone sidewalks.

Brake for any antique sign and you could be rewarded.

We are back from our trip and with a new load of country primitives. We loved seeing the countryside and collecting these treasures.

One of the many wood pieces I got in last week. The back comes up so you can hang something, like I did the candle. It also makes it easier to "prop" a bowl or cutting boards for your gatherings. A fun box to play with for sure.

What Is A Shade?

A shade in this case is a covering over a light bulb which can make or break the look of a lamp. Kay, one of my customers sent me this picture of a shade she purchased at the shop. She had bought the neat lamp somewhere else but the shade was too big. She did a good job finding the right shade and using the correct harp to make it fit. Lamp shades do make all the difference in what a lamp will look like. Bring in an old lamp and we will help find the perfect shade for you.

Textiles Arrived

Family Heirloom Weavers has done a new pillow case that has a two button closure as seen in the photo. The red one is called mice teeth because of the design on the sides.

I also received a nice shipment of table squares, throws and a a few new blanket designs. The shelves are filling up and more coming in the weeks ahead.

The robin's egg blue on this enamelware makes a nice contrast with the lemons. Notice that the old crate is also blue and yellow, someone else was thinking the same way. Of course zinnias tucked in anywhere adds a little cheer. This creamy cabinet I filled with grey enamelware but without the touches of red it would be rather drab. Please don't misunderstand I love drab and dark but in some cases it might need to have a little lift.

Even baby can have a touch of prim in their room. The punch tin cupboard allows for storage of baby things but will also work as the child grows.

A dry sink for a baby changing table? Just add a pad and ready, set, go for baby's needs. Of course either of these pieces do not say "baby" because they will work in any adult room also.

This past week has been busy reworking things in the shop, in preparation for The Brown Bag Special. I will be adding more things before the sale starts on Tuesday. I spent this afternoon cleaning up some small furniture pieces to take in.

This is one of the new cabinets that just came in. I took a picture on unloading day but wanted you to see it decorated. Kathy made a grouping on top with some of the brown crocks and grain sifters. I like the touches of red she added and the chicken pottery on the inside.

Gathering Old Crocks

While we were traveling I was busy gathering crocks. I think there is nothing that says primitive more than an old crock. They look good filled with flowers or branches but equally as nice empty. So many different sizes, shapes and color variations but each had it's special use. The crock on the far left is "drippy" and even has the potters finger prints on the upper and lower rim. A "mistake" at the time I am sure but it adds to the character of these old pieces.

Cupboards

I wanted to share a few pictures of some other cupboards we just brought back from our trip. This is nice one door pine cupboard with wonderful patina. It is not real deep so will work in many spaces.

This punch tin cupboard has a really nice design on the tin ,which is in good condition. My photo did not really do this beauty justice. Again a wonderful patina.

This is a closer view of the wagon that is in front of the cabinet. Imagine the wagon filled with dolls, a Christmas tree or pumpkins. After the picture was taken many dolls found a place to sit and enjoy their "ride".

We got back this afternoon from our buying trip and started the unloading process. After seven days of "gathering"it is always fun to see what has been tucked away in boxes and under blankets.

One of many cupboards/cabinets that is making their way into the store. It is always a challenge to work everything in but I am sure it will happen. The smaller antiques I will be pricing tonight to get them ready for their appearance in the store tomorrow.

Kay's Patriotic Arrangement

Kay and Fred collect patriotic items for their home and this is a recent grouping . The wonderful old tool carrier that they purchased at Gatherings some time back looks nice on their table. Kay has accented it with stars, berry stems and battery operated star lights. I am currently out of the lights but in the next few weeks more will be available. I hope you all enjoy seeing how Kay put her "gatherings" together as much as I did.

Dried Slices And Bunches

Some of the items we have in the "new" room are dried bowl fillers as seen in the photo.These are Bael Nut Slices ( Quince). There are also sunflower heads, apple slices and brick gourds. It is the small details that finish a setting.

The hanging dried bunches add a nice touch on a peg, cupboard door or fireplace. Of course a crock or an old pitcher would look stunning filled with some dried florals.

Farmhouse Gatherings

The old blue sponged bowl is set off nicely with the blue of the cupboard and new red paddle. The grouping is simple but I like adding different textures and angles for the eye to enjoy.

Love these battery operated tapers. They are on a timer for six hours then off for eighteen. Ideal for a hard to reach place or just plain ol' handy for anywhere.

These grubby candles are also battery and on a timer. They give you more of a statement if you need to fill a space.

Destruction !!

In January while the painters were here I had them attack a room that has only been used for storage. Was it ever a mess! Look what they uncovered under all the ruble. Yes, an old brick wall. I had them paint the other walls but left the brick exposed.

I just love it. There is a brick arch over the door but also over the one window in the room.

O.K. Then my mind began to whirl....what are we going to do in there with that really great brick wall? I do have a plan and yes I will let you see but you will have to wait a bit.

Bowls and Eggs

Maple waxed eggs look like they are nested in one of the bowls. I like the bowl tilted a bit in front of the one standing. The bowls are primitive but are both new.

A beehive stack of bowls add color to the cupboard.

Warm and Inviting

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Joy's beautiful home. She had recently purchased several new pieces from me and it was fun to see how she used them in her home. The above is an Ash Down bin from Primitiques. The bin has slide out lids that will give her many decorating possibilities.

The Primitiques scrolled bin is filled with some of her crocks. The lower shelf conceals a slide out bin and I wonder what goodies she stored there. The bunny and eggs add a touch of Spring.

Joy recently furnished a guest room with a bed she purchased here at the shop. The Family Heirloom Weavers blanket and coverlet finish off the bed nicely. The room is very inviting and welcoming to anyone who might spend the night. It is always a delight to see Joy's talent displayed around her home in the many vignettes and gatherings.

It is always a treat to receive a box from Arnett's. This time six beautiful hand made dolls were tucked inside. The detail and expressions of each doll is amazing.

Old eleven drawer cabinet that has just come in. This is a wonderful handmade find with a touch of history. The drawers at one time held a collection of native wood collected by Frank H. Delmars,1889. Actually there are several drawers that still hold some of the polished and labeled wood pieces.

The bear is actually a handmade creation by Alta's Heirlooms. He has a much worn look to him that tugs at your heart. The picture does not show that he has two eyes to call to you. We also have a girl bear in a sweet little dress made by Alta's. I had planned to post some other pictures but my camera's battery is low so was not able to download at the shop. I will have other pictues posted on Saturday.

Denee and her five month old son, Robby are picking an egg for their discount last week at our Spring Gatherings. Hope Robby picked out a good one for his mommy. It was fun seeing little shoppers with their mommies. You can never train them too early : )

Again Scoops ??

Yes, again with the scoops. This time they are decked out with bunnies, Spring greenery, carrots and eggs. The wonderful black Ol' City Tavern cupboard is made by Primitiques and just came in this week.

Norma put together this arrangement and it sold yesterday with all the goodies. These big scoops make a nice base for seasonal decor.

So many possibilities with this many sizes of scoops. Did I go a little scoop crazy? I think maybe I did. Can you tell there are eight in the picture? One large metal one refused to be in the shot. The wood scoop in the front I am itching to fill with some bunnies, eggs and sprigs of the new greenery. These will be in the shop next Thursday for the Spring Gatherings even the big one that was hiding.

Sweet Bunnies

These vintage look bunnies make a special edition to any collection. They are actually molded from old candy molds or toys. They are poured from a composition material that seems to be ceramic like. The artist has painted each piece in soft pastels. The bunny in the middle is from a candy box design because his head comes off.

Goody !!! I got in another shipment of bunnies from Arnett's. The bunny on wheels did not get pictured a few weeks ago because he hopped out of the store too quick. The sweet little bunny with his radish has been very popular also.

A variety of some of the other bunnies that are in the shop looking for a home. One bunny is sitting on one of our new candle mats, he is making himself right at home.

Antique Egg Molds

I found these just in time for Spring. I can see the mould of three eggs laying on a table with a candle in each egg. A little greenery and perhaps a sprig or two of flowers would complete the picture. Hmm!! Perhaps I need to do that and post another picture.

Wreaths

A bit of Spring touches this wreath with the mix of Heather and Lepto. The wreaths themselves are a combination of birch and Huck.

This wreath definitely is full of Lepto. I set one of the wreaths in a candle box with a candle in the center. Nothing more is needed.

Chicks and Hens For sale reminds me of my childhood at Easter time. Our neighborhood grocery had multi colored chicks for sale at the front of the store. That certainly would be unheard of nowadays. Our chicks grew to be a rooster and hens until the crowing bothered the neighbors.

The little stuffed hen will not do any mischief since she is sitting quietly on "her" nest.

The sweet little sheep on wheels are made by Arnett's Country store. I love the black sheep because there has to be at least one in every crowd.

Yesterday we delivered this sofa and wing back recliner to Sandra's beautiful home. She loves mustard's and especially reds so the furniture fit right in. Their cat Frisky is checking out the new recliner and I think she likes it. We had a wonderful tour of the home and chatted while enjoying a delicious homemade cake. What a treat !

These sweet little guys are made by Arnetts Country Store. They hopped out of their box today after the Fed Ex man delivered them. Hopped and hopped until they found this nice large baguette basket that also just arrived. The two larger rabbits are holding radishes. I love each one of their individual personalities.

My favorite color is red and I love roosters so these plates meet both criteria. I think they would make any meal taste better. The mugs are quite generous and have a good balance. Come check them out for yourself.

Old Dough Box

Just brought this wonderful old dough box into the store on Saturday. I have never had one with drawers before. The patina is wondeful and the lift off top is two boards. I did not think it would stay long because it is so unusual. Well that is the case because it will be going to its new home next weekend.

Not often do I see a really special boy doll but this big guy called to me. He has so much personality. There is a lot of detail on him including his tag that says Poor Folk to a red bandanna in his back pocket. The bunny girl has a feed sack dress and in front is a bowl of handmade radishes.

This is just a wider angle showing some of the other goodies that were poked into the suitcases. Thank you Southwest Airlines for not charging for two checked bags. ; )

Back From Market

I just got back from Pennsylvania today. I fretted over the weather when I left last week with the ice here in Houston only to come back to the possibility of it happening again. Ugh!! We are southerners and not use to that kind of weather. We will be open tomorrow as long as the schools are open.

Enough of that!! The good part I did carry back some bunnies, pewter, tin ware and a few other goodies. There were so many wonderful things to chose from and I can't wait for the boxes to arrive in the weeks ahead. It was a good market !!

Accent Lamps

This little scale lamp is a nice size to sit on a kitchen counter or perhaps a cupboard shelf.

Watch Out Snow And Ice !!

Today is the day that I depart for Pennsylvania to buy for the store. I have been watching the weather all week and keeping my fingers crossed that I am able to leave Houston as scheduled.
After having an ice storm in Houston Friday, it does make one wonder. This is the market that has those special hand made items and goods that accent our prim homes. I will be back in the store on Thursday with a few goods that I can pack in that extra large suitcase that I am taking for that purpose. The rest of the things I order and they will be coming in the weeks ahead.

Market is full of eye candy but many decisions to be made. After being on your feet for eight hours and walking for days it can be tiring. I do meet up with two friends Jen, North Carolina and Sharon, Michigan who also have stores. We room together and shop talk when we meet back up in the evenings.

Yellow Ware

I love the red and mustard's of this cupboard. When I was doing my redo at the shop I put the yellow ware inside and like the effect of the two color combination. The yellow ware is newly made so it is oven and microwaveable.

Wood Smalls

Paddle candle holders are perfect for the battery operated candles. The round riser sets off anything that you might want to feature on your table. I like the saying on the pillow which is quite true.

This deep wood "bowl" holds a variety of candle boards . These are just a few of the new wood items that have come into the shop.

Two door wall cabinet looks interesting hanging over this little prim table. I had it made in the aged brown paint and had hoped there was a place at home for it but not the case. I had plans for the inside also but it will have to be a treasure for someone else.

These darling jars of cookies are made by OH SUGAR. The crispy little cookies are in chocolate chip or chocolate brownie. Also chocolate covered almonds in cello bags. A perfect gift for someone in your life. Yummy !!

A wood tote made from a box. I love the way the sides are a boot jack shape. The handle is leather and certainly can be put to a ton of uses.

Dough Board and Bowls

The character in this "old " bowl fool's the eye but upon closer examination you will find it is resin. The bowl has all the character marks of an early bowl without out the hefty price of its predecessor. Nice assortment of bowls have just arrived with several having a metal mend.

Two more resin bowls add to this kitchen grouping. The dough board is perfect to add to a counter top because it can be easily moved if needed.

Just The Right Words

I love the saying on this sign. It gives me a warm, comforting feeling. Signs make a perfect addition to a wall grouping. Sometimes it is the one thing that will fit well with pictures and " fill" the space.

Cozy Up

When the weather is cold like it is right now I think cozy home thoughts. We are not getting the snow as in other parts of the country but for us the thirties is chilly. It is the perfect time to light those candles , put a log on the fire and enjoy. I am burning Black Crow 's Prairie Butter in the store right now and it has a delicious scent of warm apple butter. Yum !! I love the pantry cake and shoo fly to left of the picture also, they speak "homey".

Speaking of being cozy these new sheets just came in from Pennsylvania this week. They are loom made and have a very soft texture. Now wouldn't it be fun nestled under these sheets?

Mantle Top Groupings

Corner Cabinet

This is a wonderful corner cabinet with square nails. It is wide so it really has a lot of space inside. Recently acquired a couple of weeks ago I feel it will make a perfect addition to the country home. On the top sits a crock with the lighted pussy willow. I need to add more crocks, a basket or perhaps a doll. It looks a little sparse at the moment but it will not take long to change that to a grouping.

Fresh Paint !!

I love the new color in the front room of the store. It is called Cardboard and I think it shows the furniture off well. Finally have taken time to take pictures after painting, redoing and putting away Christmas . It has been a busy past week.

The over sized chair and ottoman came in right before Christmas plus the love seat to the left. I know you can barely see but the fabric in the love seat looks like an old coverlet.
